On September 18, ICCF gathered together an
unprecedented cross section of
policymakers and conservationists to celebrate achievements in conserving our
most precious natural resources. The 2007 U.S. Congressional International Conservation Gala included Heads of State, many Members of Congress, Administration officials and Ambassadors, as well as corporate leaders in conservation and leading conservation NGOs and VIPs
from all over the world.
The Gala Co-chairs Hank and Wendy Paulson, presented ICCF's "The Good Steward" Award to Kris and Doug Tompkins for their personal investment in the rehabilitation and conservation of
over two million acres of land in the Patagonia region of Chile and Argentina. Chad Holliday, CEO of DuPont, presented
the ICCF Conservation Leadership in Business Award to the National
Geographic Society, accepted by Gilbert Grosvenor, Chairman. We had the privilege of Tony Blair
addressing the Gala from Jerusalem, via video, accepting the ICCF Teddy
Roosevelt International Conservation Award presented to him for his leadership in international conservation.
At this year’s Gala we launched our new ICCF Partners in
Conservation portfolio, a
useful educational tool for our growing list of conservation partners and policymakers around
the world. The portfolio is a colorful collection of current or recent
projects supported by our Conservation Council members and provides examples of some of their most successful international conservation partnerships.
