The Honorable Cameron Hume, American Ambassador to Indonesia Partners: USAID This event highlighted the risks to economic and food security in Indonesia, a nation at the center of the Coral Triangle biodiversity epicenter. Alfred Nakatsuma, Director of the USAID's Environmental Office in Indonesia, addressed the crucial nature of the consequences of not dealing with the illegal and unsustainable logging, fishing, and development practices that currently persist and which are responsible for severe environmental degradation. USAID is collaborating with the Indonesian government, local communities, and businesses on a large scale to reshape the economic structure in a sustainable fashion and combat species overkill before irreversible economic and environmental collapse.
